Ms. Yvette Annette Thompson - Irving

Yvette Arnette Thompson-Irving was born on December 25th, 1965, to Deborah C. Thompson and Tyrone Young in Washington, D.C. Her love and dedication to God came at an early age. She gave her life to Christ at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church in 1983-1993, later rejoining at Gateway to Heaven Pentacostal Holiness from 1994-2008. Lastly, she joined St Stephen Baptist Church under the tutelage of Bishop Lanier C. Twyman , Sr., and active until 2021 due to her long-term battle with COPD, alongside her mom in the “Ministry of Helps “. Yvette was educated in the D.C. Public School system. As a child, her ambition was to be a mother. She was raised by a family of strong nurturers. So much so, that when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she responded “a housewife and a mother.” Thus, she grew with a heart of benevolence and generosity. During her youth she would often volunteer her time to provide care and service to others. She loved Godscreationsandwouldtakeinanyoneoranythingthatneededcare. Shewasgood at making her home feel safe and full of love. Since she was a young girl, she has had a love for fashion and cooking. Yvette was skillful and independent. During her contributions to the family restaurant she would curate and assemble different culinary masterpieces that would fortify her extensive cooking legacy. She shared her inherited love for cooking and nurturing with all. There were many meals she cooked for those experiencing homelessness, group homes, and any one she saw in need. God would speak to her spirit on many of days, to cook plentiful meals for those in need. She would get up early in the morning preparing hot meals, snacks, and treats for those she was called to serve that day. For many years she was a health care giver at Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown Hospital, and Sibley Hospital- as a independent contractor. Yvette was the” It Girl” in her best years, known for being well dressed and having a heart of gold. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, no specials occasion needed. When she received a blessing, she made sure everyone was blessed. Everyone that knew her grew to love her. Her gardening skills were passed down from her grandmother (Mama) to her mother and blossomed within her. She absolutely loved plants and flowers as it was her God given passion to nurture life. This quality would remain ever present throughout her youth and adulthood. She had a “Green Thumb” and could grow any plant or flower D.C. weather allowed. Her garden attracted many people and flourished season after season. She loved to decorate for the holidays, especially Christmas. Yvette loved to get together to have a good time, listen to music, and to be surrounded by good vibes and people. In 1997 she married her soulmate Eric L. Irving (Honey). He was God sent and a blessing to her life. Their love was undeniable from the beginning to the end. He was one of the best things to happen to her and at the right time. Her grandchildren brightened her days, as she would spoil them with an abundance of love and gifts. They knew” Grandma” always had something for them whether it be big hugs or a basket filled with treats. Yvette A, Thompson-Irving is preceded in death by her father, Tyrone Young, two brothers, Tyrone Young Jr., and Tony Young, and sister Danielle Bethel. She leaves to cherish her memories husband, Eric L. Irving , four daughters Fallyn Thompson, Charity Thompson, Mone’t Thompson, and Erica Thompson; one step son Eric Andre Irving; her mother Deborah C. Bethel-Patterson; three sisters, Antonionette Sedgwick (Louis), Cheryl Young, and Talatha Young; one brother Jeffrey Young; 5 grandchildren, Fabian Thompson, Caidynce Thompson, Sakai Thompson, Loyalty Thompson, and Peace Thompson; one great-grandson Karson Thompson and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
