Iman Jackson
June 8, 1978 - September 5, 2020
Iman Jasmine Jackson was born June 8, 1978 to Fred and LaTonya Broome Jackson (AKA Toni). From the beginning, she was a beautiful baby and a gift to a grandmother and to an aunt and uncle who had not had a new baby in the family for many years. She grew up in Northwest DC in the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park neighborhoods. Much of her time was spent at the family home of her Grandmother (Mama Neni), Aunt Lou, and Uncle Junior. They adored her and she loved them very much. She continued to mourn the loss of her Uncle who passed away last year. Iman excelled as a student in the DC Public Schools system. She attended Park View Elementary School, where she graduated as class Salutatorian. Her talent for theatre and the performing arts was revealed when she played the lead in “Cindy Mae Ella”, an afro-centric take on the Cinderella story. She went on to graduate from Alice Deal Junior High School and Woodrow Wilson Senior High School. During her teen years, Iman was a member of the DC Youth Ensemble “DCYE”, a remarkable performance organization, directed by Carol Foster. This organization nurtured some of the best young performers in the Washington Metropolitan Area. DCYE not only embraced a sense of cultural awareness, but also instilled discipline in the pursuit of excellence in the art of dance. Iman pursued higher education at Lincoln University and Bowie State University for two years. She continued her quest for learning and improving her professional skills by attending classes at Trinity Washington University and taking online classes at the Art Institute of Pittsburg. Iman was a true advocate for integrity in the real estate field. She began her real estate career in 1998 and quickly transitioned to Sales Manager for Marlboro Ridge, Prince Georges County’s first equine community of 998 homes. She went on to work in association management. As a Portfolio Manager she was responsible for budgets, contracts, maintenance and interface with boards of directors for multiple properties. Iman was an active member of the Community Associations Institute, serving on the Quorum and Maryland Legislative Committees of the Washington Metro Chapter, as well as a contributor to its Quorum Magazine. She was a member of the XYZ Committee for Associated Builders and Contractors of Metro Washington and a Notary Public for Maryland and Virginia. She held the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) and the Association Manager Specialist (AMS) designations granted by the Community Associations Institute. Iman loved the DC music and restaurant scene, and was always up for a Wizards or Nationals game. She was excited to have the opportunity to attend the Kentucky Derby with friends. She looked forward to our family trips to Ocean City, Md, our over-the-top fireworks on the 4th of July, and our crab feast cookouts at Uncle Junior’s home in Calvert County. She practiced Bikram Yoga and was an avid gardener, legendary baker, and talented writer. Above all of these achievements, her proudest was being the mother of her son Anthony, who is now completing his final year as a film major at The Philadelphia University of the Arts. In addition to her son Anthony, she leaves to cherish her love and memory, her mother and father; two brothers, Aaron Jackson and Richard Scales; sister Chiqwita Arnold Garnes; three aunts, Deborah Taylor, Sharon Mitchell, and Michele Lyons of Ohio; Godmother Lorraine Fauntleroy and family; and cousins of the Russell, Jackson, Smallwood and Whittington families, and numerous friends and colleagues.
