Mr. Josetito Ledda Nakpil
February 6, 1952 - January 20, 2022
Jose Tito Ledda Nakpil, 69, of Germantown, MD, entered into God’s eternal care after a courageous 2 decade battle against Parkinson, on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Born February 6, 1952 in the Manila area, Philippines, Tito was the eldest son of the late Sim Pingul and Julia (Nera) Ledda Nakpil. Tito was a graduate of Notre Dame of Manila in 1969, and attended University of the Philippines, before he immigrated to the United States with his mother and siblings in 1971; two years after his father. Tito became a United States citizen in the late 1970s. He obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in 1979, as well as a Master’s in Computer Science from the Pennsylvania State University in 1981. Tito worked for IBM for 13 years. He transitioned to the State Department and while on his 2002-2004 assignment to Burkina Faso, Tito met his future wife, Martine, in 2003. They married in 2005. During his State Department years, Tito, Martine, and their children, lived on location in Niger (2004-2006), Nigeria (2006-2008), Abu Dhabi, UAE (2008-2010), and finally Washington, D.C. Tito worked at this last post as an Information System Officer, until he retired in August 2013. Tito’s many eclectic interests included: extreme sports such as motor biking, mountain biking, kayaking, and hang gliding; reading constantly; camping in the snow (once for two months!); traveling to all 50 states (driving to 49 of them!); being an NRA member; and lastly, being an enthusiastic Scoutmaster, with shirts covered in patches and medals, who cared about his scouts so much that he called them “his kids.” His family remembers him as a precise, quirky, wonderful husband, father, brother, and role model, who encouraged others to be courageous, curious, and self-reliant. Tito is survived by his beloved wife, Aya Martine Nakpil, his treasured sons: Jules Nakpil, Sim Nakpil, and Karl Nakpil; his devoted siblings: Victoria L. Nakpil of Fernandina, FL, Luis L. Nakpil and his wife Michelle Lee of Potomac, MD, Albert L. Nakpil and his wife Cynthia of State College, PA; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. The Nakpil family would also like to thank the following care givers and medical practitioners for the care of their husband, and father: Kouta Samoura, Fatima Matou Bah, Soba Diabate, Asma Kakay; and Dr. Pritha Ghosh, Neurologist at George Washington University Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 AM, Tuesday, January, 25, 2022 at Mother Seton Parish, 19951 Father Hurley Boulevard, Germantown, MD with Fr. Lee Fangmeyer as the celebrant.
