Margaret V Corbin

July 28, 1924 - June 11, 2020

Margaret Virginia Wingo Corbin was born on July 28, 1924 to the late Harry Fisherman and Blanche Anderson Wingo in Jetersville, VA. She was the 2nd sibling of 10 children. She is preceded in death by brothers Dunlap, Alexander, James and Richard. Margaret attended Truxillo Elementary and Russell Grove High Schools. In 1943, she migrated to Washington, D.C. and lived with her Aunt Cornelius Lewis. She attended Cortez Peters Business College where she developed excellent typing skills. Margaret grew up in a loving Christian home and was baptized at St. James Church at an early age. Her faith in God impacted her life. She prided herself in knowing all the Books of the Bible. Her home church for the last 25 years has been Union Wesley AME Zion under the pastorships of the Rev. Wesley W. Bowden, the Rev. Dr. Alvin T. Durant, Presiding Elder and currently the Rev. Dr. Brian Scott Relford. Margaret was a faithful active Servant on the Stewardess Board until she developed Alzheimer’s. “Mama” as she was so lovingly called by her family, loved her church. Margaret met the suave and debonair George “Bob” Robert Corbin (deceased 1975) in D.C and instantly fell in love. They were joined in holy matrimony in 1946. From that union they had 4 daughters; Veronica, Jacqueline, Deborah (deceased 2014), Theresa, and 2 sons; Tyrone and Oliver. Margaret was home and nurtured her children during the early years. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1985 as a Retail Clerk at the U.S. Treasury Department. Margaret and her sister’s and brother’s were very close; but she and Ellen were best friends. You didn’t see one without the other. They truly had a sisterhood connected by the heart with lots of love. Margaret’s joys were her children, grandchildren and family, church, cooking (a great cook), traveling, gardening, playing competitive bid whist, music and shopping at Garfinkels’s Department Store. Margaret lived a full happy life filled with love, family and friends. There were no regrets. During her years spent at the nursing home, her family was by her side everyday. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: 3 daughters: Veronica Ivey, Jacqueline Chandler, and Theresa Givens (Sheldon) Maryland. 2 sons: Tyrone Anderson (Theresa) CA and Oliver Corbin (Carolyn) MD. Grandchildren: Gina (Forest), Sean, Tanya, Danny (Charlotte), Karmala, Andre (Dana), Tiffany (Shawn), Anthony (Tony), Mary Lakeisha (Keisha), Rodney, Jr. Great Grandchildren: Sebastian, Liam, Michael, Darin, Jasmine, Danny lll, Briana, Riley, Raina. Great Great Grandchild: Sophia. Margaret leaves 3 Brothers: Harry Wingo (Claretta), John Wingo (Virginia) MD, Franklin Wingo (Carroll) PA. 2 Sisters: Ellen McRoy, Doris Powell, MD, Sisters-in-Law: Bernice Wingo, VA and Delores Wingo, PA.
